What THEY do

The Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation is a national charity assisting people in our most marginalised communities to gain vital language, literacy and communication skills.

With support from Officeworks and our customers, ALNF supports Indigenous, refugee and other vulnerable Australians to overcome educational inequality caused by poverty – so they can thrive now and into their futures.

What WE do

Since the Officeworks Literacy is Freedom Appeal began thirteen years ago, we have raised more than $4.8 million, which is enough to support the education of over 20,000 students through ALNF’s Early Language, Literacy and Numeracy programs.

We’re passionate about ensuring every child in Australia can make the most of their education, no matter what their circumstances are.

Find out more on how we’re committed to help 30,000 Australian students who need it most by 2025.

Free Digital Lesson by Charmaine Ledden-Lewis

Officeworks and the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF) are proud to launch a powerful new Indigenous-led digital learning resource, created to inspire imagination, storytelling, and self-expression in classrooms and homes across Australia.

Created by Charmaine Ledden-Lewis, a proud Bundjalung woman, award-winning illustrator and ALNF ambassador, this special resource invites students to explore their creativity, share their stories, and ignite their imagination. Through guided storytelling and artistry, this resource helps every child to dream boldly, learn joyfully, and write their own bright future.

Indigenous-led educational tools, whether digital or in print, are vital for building inclusive, culturally rich learning environments. They ensure that Indigenous voices, histories, and perspectives are authentically represented, empowering both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students to connect, understand, and grow. This new resource is a powerful example of how students can engage with authentic Indigenous voices, fostering a sense of identity, pride, and belonging.

Money raised during the Officeworks Literacy is Freedom Appeal this September will help to fund life changing programs, supporting marginalised communities to gain vital language, literacy and communication skills.
