Unsolicited Jobseeker Email Phishing Scam
Officeworks has become aware of an email scam that involves someone impersonating the Officeworks Team. They make an unsolicited approach to a jobseeker with an offer to interview for a fake role at Officeworks. The jobseeker is asked to email a contact to set up a Google Hangout call and then a SMS is sent to the jobseeker to sign up to Telegram where a fake interview takes place. If the jobseeker complies, the fake interviews are conducted and the jobseeker is then offered a position that doesn’t exist, some examples have been accompanied by requests to purchase equipment for the fake role. The initial emails have been sent from various email addresses, none of which come from Officeworks. There is potential that the criminals could try to steal money from the jobseeker, or steal their personal details, or both, so we strongly advise to avoid any unsolicited job applications.
