Connecting with our communities

About us

Helping make bigger things happen where we live and work

We are passionate about building meaningful connections with the local communities where we live and work. In addition to employing local people in our stores, we support national, state and local causes to support individuals and groups that need it the most, with a particular focus on helping educate disadvantaged students.

In FY20, together with our customers we contributed $5.5 million to support the communities where we live and work. This was achieved through in-kind product and cash donations and three major fundraising appeals.

Round Up to Make a Difference

Round Up to Make a Difference is one of our annual initiatives helping make a positive difference in the communities where we live and work.

This year, together with our customers we raised over $1.41m for 17 organisations across the country supporting two important areas: mental health and education.

Helping make bigger things happen through national partnerships

We are proud supporters of education, and we believe that every student in Australia deserves access to a quality education. That’s why, through our national partnerships we’re raising valuable funds to support the children who need it most.

Officeworks Back to School Appeal supporting The Smith Family

Research shows that one in six children in Australia grows up in poverty without access to the basics they need to thrive at school. Every year from December to February our Back to School Appeal supports children and helps to break that cycle of disadvantage. By making a donation in store or online, our customers help us raise vital funds to support The Smith Family’s Learning for Life Scholarships, which provide emotional, practical and financial support to help disadvantaged children and young people with their education.

Wall of Hands Appeal supporting The Australia Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF)

Every September, we raise our hands for our annual Wall of Hands Appeal to help the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF) close the Indigenous literacy gap.

Together with the support and generosity of our customers, partners and team, our 2021 Wall of Hands Appeal has raised over $710,000 for the ALNF. Officeworks contributed $100,000 towards the total, with 20¢ from every Studymate product sold during September being donated.

The funds raised will go towards providing Literacy Packs, new books to the communities who need it most and funding the Early Language and Literacy Program to help Indigenous students write their own bright futures.

Restoring Australia

Officeworks is commited to making a positive difference to the environment, native wildlife, landholders and communities over the long term. Restoring Australia delivers tree planting and land restoration projects and allows customers to make sustainable purchases simply by shopping at Officeworks. Launched in July 2017 in partnership with Greening Australia, the initiative sees Officeworks committing to planting two trees for every one used, based on the weight of paper-based products purchased by its customers.

Disaster Relief

Making meaningful connections and contributions to the communities where we live and work is something we’re committed to as a business. Like so many, we feel passionate about supporting the communities impacted by natural disasters.

Recently, our team and customers came together to support the students, schools and communities impacted by the devastating bushfires through workplace giving to the Red Cross Disaster Recovery Relief and Recovery, product donations to local organisations and customer donations through our national Bushfire Relief appeal in stores.

Funds raised went to our national partners to support communities affected by the fires. The ALNF works directly with communities in the Mid-North Coast NSW, Bowraville and Taree and have identified three preschools and one primary school impacted by the fires. In both areas, the fires came right up to the edge of town, fortunately sparing the schools. Over 300 children at these schools will receive a Literacy Pack with a selected ‘Book Bundle’ to take some pressure off parents. The funds will also support specific requests for technology or classroom equipment. The Smith Family have identified over 600 students on their Learning for Life Program in various communities impacted by the fires across the ACT, NSW, QLD, SA and VIC.
