Home organisation doesn’t need to mean a complete life overhaul – sometimes small changes can make the biggest difference. An Australian survey found that three in five of us struggle to find the time to declutter, clean and organise. The good news is that these clever organisation hacks only take minutes and will transform your mornings, help keep your kids occupied when you most need it and ensure you keep on top of the piles of paperwork that enter your home.

Travel Activity Pack for Kids

Keeping kids entertained is key when you’re on a road trip, at a doctor’s appointment or waiting for your food to arrive at a café. Creating a travel activity pack is a simple organisation hack that can make a big difference to your routine.

Start with a set of zippered pouches or small pencil cases that are clear, so you can keep track of what’s inside. Fill them with coloured pencils, crayons, notebooks, stickers, activity books, origami paper, small games and anything else your kids like doing. While you’re filling them, make a pile of all the unwanted or broken and dried up pens and scraps of paper for recycling. Most stationery supplies are accepted at Officeworks’ Bring It Back stations in-store for repurposing or recycling.

You might have one pouch for drawing implements, one for stickers and another for small games. Or you could create one pouch for each child. Take advantage of the Officeworks Print & Create service to design custom labels so you can quickly identify what’s inside each one.

Out-The-Door Bag Station

How often do you leave the house and forget small yet important items like lip balm, a portable charger and mints? Setting up this out-the-door bag station will help organise your essentials and keep them in one place.

Choose a compact set of plastic drawers and place them near your front door or wherever you keep your bag. Use one drawer for each type of item: hand cream, lip balm and other cosmetics; bandaids and paracetamol; hair ties and a small brush; tissues, wet wipes and hand sanitiser; and a powerbank and phone cable

Then all you need to do is quickly grab what you need on your way out – without running back to the bathroom or home office, worrying that you’ve forgotten something.

Hot Tip: Label each drawer using the Officeworks Print + Create service. You could colour-code the drawers or label them by family member.

Cabinet Door Pockets

Bills, school notices and menus for your favourite takeaway often end up unsorted in piles stashed around your home office and dining table. For a simple filing solution, turn the inside of your pantry or a cupboard door into a hidden, functional storage space using labelled document wallets

Attach five or six pockets to the inside of a door using adhesive strips or hooks. Assign a different category to each pocket – ‘school stuff’, ‘bills’, ‘mail to action’ or ‘receipts’ – and label them clearly. If a new category of paper starts to build up, like ‘moving house’ or ‘starting school’, create a new pocket to stay on top of household clutter.

With the Officeworks Print+ Create service, you can design cards or custom labels for each pocket. For added durability, have the cards laminated so they can withstand daily use and be wiped clean if needed.
