Katherine Sabbath has always known the power of a well-baked cake, but she didn’t realise quite how far it would take her when she started sharing her creations.

“When I was a high school teacher, I would bring cakes to celebrate end-of-term class parties and create rapport with my students,” says Katherine. “I would post them on social media, not thinking anything would happen, but I was building an online portfolio without realising it. Eventually, I had some brands reach out for commercial work and I decided to step back from teaching and pursue this sticky-fingered cake adventure and see where it might take me.”

Now, 12 years into her delicious journey, Katherine has built a cake-loving community on social media, authored three inspiring cookbooks, ‘Katherine Sabbath Greatest Hits: The Pop Edition’, ‘Bake Australia Great’ and ‘Bake My Day’, made guest appearances on Australian television shows, from MasterChef to Play School Art Time, and runs a cake supply business, Creative Cake Decorating. She’s also a mum to a toddler, Zemirah, and fur baby, Pluto.

Discover the tech helpers and essential devices she swears by to make her day-to-day juggle look like a piece of cake.

Printers

“I have two types of printers at home – one is for printing product stickers and the other prints invoices and packing slips, so I can post all of my products from home. I use them every day and rely on them so much.”

2-in-1 Laptop

“I’m using my laptop all the time. I have one that has a detachable screen and turns into a  tablet. I use it to sketch designs with a stylus and that helps me when I’m sending ideas to clients, because it’s just a lot easier to amend designs in a digital format. I don’t have to do the whole sketch again, and we can write notes next to certain things and change colours. It’s easier to share [the changes] as well.”

Bluetooth Headphones and Speakers

“I love to listen to audiobooks because I don’t have much time to sit and read a book anymore. Audiobooks make me feel like I'm expanding my brain and creativity while I’m working at the same time. I usually put on headphones if it's noisy in the kitchen or outside, but I'll use my Bluetooth speaker if it’s a quieter day.”

“I love the taste of coffee and that I get a lot of things done when I drink it. It's also such a nice routine that I do for myself, and when I have a crew over for content shoots, it’s nice to be able to make [a cup] for people. If I’m making a really big cake that requires a lot of physical work like mixing and multitasking, I love drinking coffee throughout the day.”

Robot Vacuum

“My workspace is a little bit unconventional because I’m not working in an office; it's my home and it's the kitchen, so it gets messy. It can be hard when you're at home and you're distracted by getting house chores done because you’re there. So, having a robot vacuum [affectionately known as Rocky in our house] means that I can concentrate on my work while my little friend cleans around me.”

“When you’re filming content, it’s good to have lighting so there’s no time pressure if you’re losing light. Sometimes it takes all day to make cakes, so continuous lighting helps with consistency.”

“I do a lot of voiceovers and talking to camera content, so I love to use a little wireless microphone for that. They’re really great for reducing background noise and they make you feel so professional.”
