As a tech expert and reviewer, TV presenter and videographer, Elly Awesome knows a good microphone when she sees one, so we asked her to put the Blue Yeti 3-Capsule USB Microphone to the test. Read on to discover her thoughts…

Easy-to-Use Controls

Tech reviewer Elly Awesome says the Blue Yeti Microphone is easy to use, making it perfect for beginners.

On the front of the microphone, there’s the Blue Microphone’s logo, a mute button and the volume control. At the bottom of the microphone, there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack so you can plug in your typical wired earphones or headphones and listen to how you sound as you’re recording. There is also a handy USB port under the base of the microphone.

Ability to Add a Boom Arm

The Blue Yeti 3-Capsule USB Microphone features a thread mount for a microphone boom arm. While this microphone comes with a super-convenient stand, the sound quality is even better when you mount this kind of microphone to a boom arm if you’re doing something like gaming. That’s because it takes it off the table and you don’t hear your keyboard rattling while you’re recording. Just keep in mind that it’s a pretty heavy microphone, so do your research to ensure you get the right boom arm for your Blue Yeti.

User-Friendly Audio Settings

The Blue Yeti USB microphone has easy-to-use controls for all your recording needs, including four polar patterns.

I’m going to be honest with you: there are some negative reviews of the Blue Yeti 3-Capsule USB Microphone but, in my opinion, this is an excellent beginner's microphone. You can make it sound really great if you know how to use it. If you crank up the gain control, you will pick up a lot more background sound. To figure out how much gain you need, plug in your headphones and listen to check what it sounds like.

Range of Microphone Modes

Next, you’ll need to check the mode that your microphone is set to. There are four different polar patterns this microphone can record with. The box actually has an easy-to-understand graphic that explains what all of the polar patterns are used for. Omnidirectional picks up sound from all around the microphone, making it perfect for ASMR. Gamers, podcasters and voice overs for YouTube or TikTok would use the cardioid setting. This setting picks up sound from the front of the microphone.

The Verdict

In her Blue Yeti microphone review, Elly Awesome says the all-rounder mic is ideal for gaming, recording podcasts and ASMR.

In my opinion, the Blue Yeti 3-Capsule USB Microphone sounds great and it’s an awesome microphone for beginners. It’s a great all-rounder with its four different polar patterns and very easy to just plug and play.

Hot Tip: If you’re using this microphone for gaming, make sure the keyboard is behind the microphone so it doesn’t pick up the sound of you typing.
