Connecting with our communities

About us

Helping make bigger things happen where we live and work

We are passionate about building meaningful connections with the local communities where we live and work. In addition to employing local people in our stores, we support national, state, and local causes to support individuals and groups that need it the most, with a particular focus on helping educate disadvantaged students.

In FY23, together with our customers we contributed $5.9 million to support the communities where we live and work. This was achieved through in-kind product and cash donations and three major fundraising appeals.

Officeworks Make a Difference Appeal

Officeworks Make a Difference Appeal

Our Make a Difference Appeal gives our team members the opportunity to champion local causes and organisations that are important to them and their community.

This year’s Appeal has raised more than $950,000 for local organisations that promote inclusion and enable children to learn, create and connect for a sustainable future.

As part of the annual Appeal, customers had the choice to round up their purchases in-store or donate online, with funds going directly to support 15 local community organisations.

Below is the list of organisations that together with our customers, we supported.

We operate in more than 168 local communities, from large regional towns, to suburban centres and CBD locations. We are committed to making meaningful connections in our local communities, from the customers and businesses who shop with us to our local schools, sporting clubs, charities and community groups.

Our team members live and work in our communities and are the forefront of helping us drive our local projects. From sausage sizzle fundraisers to in-store activities, we aim to get behind and support our local community.

Helping make bigger things happen through national partnerships

We are proud supporters of education, and we believe that every student in Australia deserves access to a quality education. That’s why, through our national partnerships we’re raising valuable funds to support the children who need it most.

Officeworks Back to School Appeal supporting The Smith Family

Research shows that one in six children in Australia grows up in poverty without access to the basics they need to thrive at school. Every year from December to February our Back to School Appeal supports children and helps to break that cycle of disadvantage. By making a donation in store or online, our customers help us raise vital funds to support The Smith Family’s Learning for Life Scholarships, which provide emotional, practical and financial support to help disadvantaged children and young people with their education.

Literacy is Freedom Appeal supporting The Australia Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF)

In FY24, we held annual our Literacy is Freedom Appeal in September to help the Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF) close the literacy gap for disadvantaged students across Australia.

Together with the support and generosity of our customers and team, our 2023 Literacy is Freedom Appeal has raised more than $650,000 for the ALNF, helping support over 2,500 students.

All funds raised by the Appeal goes directly towards supporting key ALNF literacy and language programs including the Early Language and Literacy, Literacy Pack and Share a Book programs to help students in need write their own bright futures.

Restoring Australia

Officeworks is commited to making a positive difference to the environment, native wildlife, landholders and communities over the long term. Restoring Australia delivers tree planting and land restoration projects and allows customers to make sustainable purchases simply by shopping at Officeworks. Launched in July 2017 in partnership with Greening Australia, the initiative sees Officeworks committing to planting two trees for every one used, based on the weight of paper-based products purchased by its customers.

Other support:

Disaster Relief

Making meaningful connections and contributions to the communities where we live and work is something we’re committed to as a business. Like so many, we feel passionate about supporting the communities impacted by natural disasters.

During times of crisis, our team members aim to respond quickly to best support their communities. In response to the devastating NSW and Queensland floods we partnered with GIVIT and raised much needed funds for the flood-affected communities. For a week, customers had the chance to round up the cost of their purchase in-store or donate online to show their support for flood victims. Thanks to the generosity of our team and customers, we contributed $400,000 to communities in need. Additionally, we donated 500 literacy packs to the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation to support students with the equipment needed to resume their studies in flood affected areas
