The right device can enhance your productivity and spark your creativity – and given that Apple is the most popular brand of laptop in Australia, according to a March 2023 report, a Mac might be the right match for you. Whether you need a computer for business or personal use, a Mac can do it all and effortlessly integrates with your iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. If you’re used to using an iPhone, working on a Mac is a breeze, as it offers many of the same apps and features.

These clever laptops, including the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro, are powered by Apple’s silicon processors. And, because Apple creates its own operating software to work hand-in-hand with its hardware, this synergy provides speed and system-wide efficiencies that mean the battery will last all day – so you can keep working on the move for longer.

Add in their durable exterior made from recycled aluminium, free regular software updates to keep your device running smoothly and securely for longer and help from Apple Support 24/7, these Mac laptops offer a lot for the price.

With so many unique features to choose from, here are our five reasons why it’s worth making the switch to an Apple Mac.

1. It’s Easy to Transfer Your Files to a Mac

Macs have always been known for being simple to use. If you’re coming from a PC, another Mac or a Time Machine back-up, you can move all your files, applications and settings to the new laptop with a feature called Migration Assistant

To transfer from computer to computer, connect both computers to the same wireless network or use a USB-C cable to connect them. You can even dive deeper and select the exact information you want to transfer: simply tick the boxes that appear beside the applications, files, folders and system information (such as the account passwords and email accounts) you want to move across.

Once the migration is complete, your new Mac will be ready to go with all your information onboard.

2. You Can Use Your iPad as a Second Screen for Your Mac

Apple’s unique Retina display – where the resolution has been quadrupled – means your Mac screen has great visuals, but sometimes you need a little bit more room to move. If you also own an iPad, you can extend your desktop onto the tablet and spread out your work to more easily use multiple applications at the same time. This productivity-boosting feature is called Sidecar and will have you multitasking like a pro.

Macs also have the handy Split View feature, so you can divide the screen and run two applications side by side. Say you’re writing a document and need to refer to a PDF of research: instead of continually bringing the PDF to the top and then diving back in to continue working on your document, you can simply position them side by side and save time getting the job done.

3. You Can Cut and Paste Between Apple Devices

Apple is one of the only companies that specifically creates software to be compatible with its own hardware, which means your Mac will effortlessly integrate with your iPhone and the whole ecosystem of Apple products.

If you need to copy images, text or even videos while working on a Mac to another Apple device, like your iPhone or iPad, you can access those assets on the Mac thanks to Apple’s clever Universal Clipboard instead of saving the file onto a USB or into the cloud.

As long as your Macs, iPhones and iPads are signed in to the same Apple ID and a feature called Handoff is turned on for all those devices (you enable this function in system settings), it’s possible for content to be shared. That means you can copy whatever you need from one Apple product and paste it into another as easily as cutting and pasting in the same document.

Plus, AirDrop lets you share photos and videos with other people’s Apple devices. Then there’s AirPlay, so you can display pictures and play videos or stream music and podcasts from a Mac, iPhone or iPad on compatible devices such as smart TVs, music systems and HomePods, making it simple to entertain your friends and family with wedding videos, holiday snaps and favourite playlists.

And if you need help tracking down where any of your Apple devices are hiding, the “Find My” feature comes to the rescue. (Just remember to set it up first!)

4. Mac Runs Apps From Other Developers

All major applications, including those used by app developers, videographers, photographers and editors, have been optimised for the Mac platform – a favourite for creative professionals, so you have all the applications you need, wherever you need to use them.

An Apple Mac now lets you run Microsoft’s popular suite of applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, along with a host of other major applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Audition. And Mac owners won’t be left out when it comes to running Zoom for video calls, Canva for creative tasks and even WhatsApp to stay in touch from your laptop.

5. Mac Has Advanced Inbuilt Cybersecurity and Privacy Protection

Security and privacy on our devices are top of mind for many of us, and the Apple Mac has built-in features that cater to both. The Apple M1 and M2 silicon chips include a secure enclave that locally stores and encrypts things like your login credentials, passwords and data – such as your messages, mail, contacts and health information.

Every Mac comes with industry‑leading encryption, robust virus protections and a powerful firewall system. And free security updates help keep your Mac protected. The Touch ID fingerprint reader not only unlocks the computer but authorises purchases and app installs, plus you can confirm passwords by using your unique fingerprint to access your online accounts.

You can also be assured that you can safely download and install apps from the Mac App Store, which works like the one on the iPhone but has apps designed to work specifically on your Mac laptop. (Look for the blue A icon in your dashboard or search for “App Store” under applications.) The Mac App Store also has the same high standards as the one on your iPhone and iPad, with every app checked by Apple to ensure performance and that they don’t contain any malicious code.

Mac can do it all. It is the ultimate computer for all your needs – for home and business.
