Sydney-based food and travel content creator Janice Fung is always on the go. Seeking out the best bites or her next adventure means she needs a reliable device to help her capture her delicious discoveries. “I use my phone for pretty much everything, from shooting content and running my small business to keeping myself occupied while I'm commuting,” she says. Here, she puts the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 to the ultimate test and shares her thoughts about how its features fit in with her lifestyle.

What’s in the Samsung Flip5 Box?

Inside is a USB-C cable, a manual and the phone. As soon as I get it out of the box, I notice how sleek and compact it is, and I love the mint colour as well.

The Bright Side of a Flip Phone

The large external cover screen means I can quickly view and organise my notifications on the run without having to flip [the phone] open. The power on and off button is also a fingerprint reader, and if you open an app on the cover screen and then flip the phone open, the app that you are using will also be on the inside screen, which is really, really handy. And when open, it has a 6.7 inch display with a resolution of 2640 x 1080.

Vlog with Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5’s Flex Mode

The Flip5 has a 12MP dual rear camera and a 10MP front facing camera, which is perfect for capturing all my mouth-watering food shots. It also lets me see myself when I vlog.

Throughout the day, I'm shooting content for my social media and my website, so I need a phone with good stability and good sound. The noise reduction on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and the improved stability for my videos is definitely a plus.

Another thing I love about this phone is that you can shoot hands-free from all different types of angles, thanks to Flex mode, where you half open the phone, put it anywhere and then film a vlog.

Productivity On-the-Go

My phone gets a lot of use during the day, so battery life is really important. I found on standard refresh mode, the Samsung Flip5 has a battery life of 11 hours*, which is 49 minutes more than its predecessor. This is really handy because it means I don't have to carry an external charger when I go out.

While I'm commuting to events or heading to shoots, I like to listen to podcasts and any spare moments in between I check my emails and respond to as many DMs as I can. Flex mode can also help with multitasking because you can have different apps on different screens.

A Durable and Compact Design

I love that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 is also super lightweight and its sophisticated no-gap hinge means that it sits flat and it guides really easily into a back pocket or into a small handbag.

It's built with tough glass, making it super durable, and it also has the IPX8 water-resistance rating to help protect it against life's little accidents, which is perfect because I film a lot of cooking videos and it almost always gets a little bit messy.
