Each year Officeworks releases a sustainability report which highlights activities and initiatives undertaken to make a positive difference to our communities. These reports include information and statistics on the following topics; environmental impact of products and operations, products from sustainable materials, ethical sourcing, learning and development, safety, diversity, community and future sustainability priorities.
Officeworks has been an avid contributor to the community for more than 22 years through local community involvement, environmental initiatives and National fundraising campaigns. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve achieved.
Cartridges 4 Planet Ark' is an innovative recycling program that provides Australians with a free, easy and environmentally-accredited way to recycle their used printer cartridges. Thanks to you, Officeworks have collected over 7 million printer cartridges for recycling.
We have supported The Smith Family in various ways since 2007. These have included literacy pack donations and donations from Ollie Bear purchases. Now, each back to school period we hold an appeal. During the Back to School Appeal, customers can donate in-store and online. Funds raised during this time go towards sponsoring students as part of The Smith Family’s Learning For Life program. We also donate funds from bag purchases and technology products through The Smith Family’s Tech Pack program.
During times of a natural disaster in Australia, Officeworks encourages customers to make a donation in-store and all monies collected are donated to the appropriate government facilitator in collecting funds.
In 2008, Officeworks Ballarat and Dandenong were the first retail destinations in Australia to collect computer equipment for recycling. Since then, our Bring IT Back program has expanded nationally collecting an estimated 400,000 kilograms annually.
Since 2009 Officeworks has been supporting the RSL by facilitating the sale of ANZAC Day badges.
Officeworks continues to support the RSL by facilitating the sale of Poppies and holding a 1 minute silence on the eleventh hour on the 11th of November.
MobileMuster is the Australian mobile phone industry's official product stewardship program. It's a free not for profit mobile phone recycling program that accepts all brands and types of mobile phones, plus their batteries, chargers and accessories.
For 3 years Officeworks raised valuable funds for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation and Bowel Cancer Australia through the Blue September fundraising campaign.
Officeworks stores nationally hosted their very own morning tea amongst customers to raise valuable funds for the Cancer Council Australia.
We have supported The Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF) in various ways since 2010. These have included stationery donations, participating in Share-a-book campaign which allowed customers to donate pre-loved books and funds from the purchase of ALNF bags. Now, each September we hold an appeal for the ALNF Wall of Hands Appeal. During this period customers can donate in-store and online.
For four years the Lions Club would sell Christmas cakes at the front of our stores.
We continue to recognise Australia’s Indigenous history and culture by running cultural awareness activities for children and families during National Reconciliation Week. This activity supports the Officeworks Indigenous Program.
For 3 years Officeworks raised funds for the AWC through the sale of a woven bag in which part proceeds were donated.
Officeworks assisted Canteen by selling bottled water in which part proceeds were donated.
Through a partnership with Defib your club, Officeworks stores invited local sporting clubs to utilise their stores sausage sizzle fundraising service to raise adequate funds to purchase a Defibrillator for their club.
Officeworks team members formed a cycling team to raise funds through cycling tours and events to support Tour De Cure.
Officeworks has used Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (Sedex) since 2012. Sedex is a global web-based platform that enables Officeworks' suppliers to share self-assessment information in the areas of labour standards, health and safety, environmental management and business integrity.
Officeworks became a participant in World Wild Fund for Nature’s (WWF) Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN). The GFTN is designed to increase accountability for products derived from forests. Through the GFTN participation, Officeworks is working towards sourcing more products from sustainably managed forests with credible forest certification such as Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
