I purchased a pack of five of these keys a few months back and have tried them in a lot computers I have also looked at the other higher 16 & 32 gig versions and they all have a basic failing.
Here is the reason they won't plug in or you have trouble plugging them into a large percentage of USB ports/sockets.
USB sockets have 2 curved tension fingers to hold the USB tight against the contacts. The facets have a very sharp metal casing so sharp in fact that when they touch the tension fingers in the USB socket it can’t slide away as it’s supposed to instead it gets cut like a knife and wedged only by jiggling and leaning of the key will you have any chance of getting it in.
There is no way that Sandisk don't know about this issue and are playing dumb. I run a business transferring family videos, etc and go through over 50 USB keys every month.

I am glad to read others have had such good success with these but everyone I know who tried these had had nothing but woe. So buyer beware... especially if giving these to kids, you are giving kids a drive with no protection, not good.
I am aware of 20 + of these USB that adult IT Users have had that have hit the wall when asked to safe simple docs and retrieve a day or two later.
My personal experience has been the same.
I bought these when they came in packs of 3 (clear, purple and black). And I found that the black ones would always crash first , followed shortly by the other two. Thought it might have been the packet so bought from a different batch , as I said loved the size and cost, but I now have over 10 that have failed.....:( thankfully I am an OCD with backing up my back ups. I am sure one of the reasons for the fails has been the little protection around the usb and the contact points.
They are great for their small size and cost, but be warned I use a lot of different USB drives every day ( as I put files on different people drives), and these are the only ones that have consistently failed on me (its not even a brand problem, love a lot of SanDisk drives and have for many years) and I initially was really excited by these, but was really disappointed by the fact that I kept loosing files and drives failing completely - ie IT expert unrecoverable ;(.
Be careful you get what you pay for.
I would recommend the neon ones that flip open, they are a few dollars more from office works, I have never had a problem with these, in fact they act as my recovery disks for all my laptops... . they are the same brand SanDisk 8GB Cruzer Switch USB 2.0 Flash Drive Blue
Just remember with USB drives and backing up - these days there is no point complaining once the assignment that is due tomorrow is lost.
And remember , back up to USB, Passports, send to emails etc... don't rely on ever decreasing hard drives to keep your documents safe, and keep a soft copy, so if the technology fails you could actually re-write.
